Senior Application Engineer, USA Detroit, Michigan · Full-time · 50%+ travel
Cambrian builds AI-powered vision that lets industrial robots see and pick parts with confidence. Our VISION platform combines stereo cameras with deep learning to perform 6D pose estimation, and models are trained straight from CAD. That means manufacturers can automate picking and handling tasks that conventional vision can't handle. We work with enterprise manufacturers across the US, Europe and Asia. Our US base is Newlab in Detroit.
The role
You'll be a senior engineer on the ground in the US. You'll take Cambrian systems from installation to go-live at customer plants and do it independently. You'll also make sure every site you deliver is ready to grow. When you're not commissioning, you'll work alongside your Application Engineer colleagues and our US sales lead on demos, feasibility studies and technical pre-sales.
What you'll do
Commission Cambrian systems at US customer sites, owning deployment, robot integration and go-live end to end
Onboard and train customer teams so that each site becomes self-sufficient and ready to expand
Run live demos at trade shows and partner events
Lead feasibility work and technical pre-sales with the sales manager
Plan, log and communicate your work through our processes and tools so the global team always knows where things stand
What you'll bring
4+ years deploying automation applications in live production environments, at an integrator, robot OEM or vision/automation supplier
Strength in two areas, weighted equally:
Hands-on robot integration (ABB, FANUC, KUKA, Universal Robots or similar)
Software skills, including Python and CAD
PLC integration experience would be a bonus
Experience with AI-based vision tools (a major plus)
Confidence in the field:
you can train operators, run a trade show demo and represent Cambrian credibly
you are comfortable working as the only engineer on site and owning the problem until it's solved
Good organization and communication skills, plus ease working with colleagues across time zones over video calls
A valid driver's license, and a base in Michigan or willingness to relocate
Authorization to work in the US without sponsorship
Willingness to travel 50%+ of the time, as deployments require
This role probably isn't for you if…
Your experience is mostly in lab or demo settings and you haven't delivered in a live production environment. It also isn't a fit if you prefer to have a project manager between you and the customer.
