Introducing Samir Rahman, Cambrian's new Technical Sales Manager Europe. With an MBA & Engineering from Hochschule München University of Applied Sciences, Samir joins us from Stratus Vision where he spent seven years developing his expertise in machine vision and understanding the complex challenges in production. We caught up with Samir to learn more about his background and what brought him to Cambrian.
It's clear to everyone that this is just the beginning of something very exciting
How did you originally get into sales?
My career began with an apprenticeship in foreign trade at a mechanical engineering company, sparking my interest in technology and influencing my decision to go on to study electrical engineering.
During my Bachelor studies, I worked as a service technician, specialising in AOI (Automated Optical Inspection) systems, and supported production lines in Europe, the US, and Asia. With time, my job grew to include more than service tasks. My manager eventually offered a commission if customers I worked with chose to upgrade their machines. That was the point where my job started to shift from a purely technical role to one that also included sales — but always with a strong link to engineering. Working closely with both the technology and the customers helped me grow into technical sales.
What excites you most about joining Cambrian?
I’ve been working in the field of vision systems for around nine years now, and it’s something I genuinely enjoy. What excited me about Cambrian was its focus on what I enjoyed most in my last job – working at the intersection of vision systems and robotics.
AI is increasingly being used across various areas of robotics, with machine vision being one of the most powerful applications. Cambrian stands out by addressing the common challenge of gathering sufficient training data for robust models through a clever approach and implement this in a strong and flexible detection-solution for real-world scenarios.
I believe Cambrian is making an impact not just in Europe, but also increasingly in Asia and the US, mainly because of our approach using AI-based detection models, which offer great benefits. In Europe, there's a growing demand for production resources. Paired with skilled workforce as our partners bring in, I am excited and look forward to solving new challenges with them.
We're just at the beginning of AI's disruption in industries like robotics
The role specifically offers me a lot of flexibility and a wide range of opportunities to tackle interesting challenges with our approach. One day, you might be talking to an OEM in Germany, the next day working with a start-up in Sweden, and another day discussing concepts with companies in the pharma area. There’s a lot of variety and chances, the main challenge is to keep the focus on the key areas.
In your view, what’s the future of robotics and AI, and how will Cambrian play a role in it?
We're just at the beginning of AI's disruption in industries like robotics. The Cambrian team has set a solid and important direction, but it’s clear to everyone that this is just the beginning of something very exciting.
With our approach, we can improve many applications by bringing in higher process stability or even solve challenges that were unsolvable in the past. At the same time the focus is not only to solve and improve these applications, but enable our partners to implement the solution themselves. We are always happy to engage with our partners and give direct support, but the goal is to make things as easy as possible so they fully own the solution. With the last Cambrian Software-Release we made big steps in this direction.
Considering how much the product has evolved over the past five years, it will be fascinating to see where we stand in the next five.
